Because users or patients must be monitored continuously and because the sensed data is too critical to lose, healthcare management systems with a very large number of personal healthcare devices are required to have fault recovery mechanisms that are activated in the event of failures in the systems. In this paper, for fault recovery procedures in a data synchronization healthcare management system, the concept of a fault-tolerant Bootstrap server is proposed. When a node of a system turns out to be faulty, the fault-tolerant Bootstrap server is responsible for identifying the appropriate alternative node on the same layer to which the faulty node belongs, for the related nodes in the lower/upper layer layers to continue the function of the system. In addition, the Bootstrap server tells which nodes in the lower/upper layer a recovered node should connect to rejoin the system.
