A study of Nursing Students’ Observation Experiences of Human Body Dissection

Abstract

Objectives: It is an epistemological and qualitative study on the experience of nursing students in the observation of anatomy, where the participants described their experience. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The results of the study were analyzed after collecting data on nursing students’ experience in practice classes for the human anatomy. By applying analytical methods of Colaizzi, a total of 89 significant statements were concluded from the protocols, and 34 formulated meanings were extracted. Based on this, the association with the source data was verified to determine 13 themes. Among these themes, cluster of themes were formed by grouping four of them together. Findings: In the midst of the preparatory waiting step of the human anatomy lab practice, the participants recognized it as a major new opportunity associated with the vague concern and stress and geared themselves for the preparation of it. Applications/Improvements: This study are expected to provide better understanding of the physical and mental responses by nursing students in practice courses on anatomy.
