We present a comparative study on three different drill bits and the factors influencing on the surface roughness in drilling Al/SiC/Graphite hybrid composite material. The surface roughness of ‘coated carbide twist drill’, ’multifaceted drill’ and ‘step drill’ bits were analysed. The machining parameters considered were the cutting speeds (1000 rpm, 2000 rpm, and 3000 rpm), feed rates (0.05 mm/rev 0.10 mm/rev and 0.15 mm/rev), and diameter of drill (4 mm, 8 mm and 12 mm). The analyses of the results were done using effect graphs. The results indicated that the step drill performed better than the other drills considered.
