Implementing Dynamically Evolvable Online Testing of Embedded Systems

Abstract

Background/Objective: Implementation model with total description and development at code level of the online testing related dynamically evolvable components is absolutely required to show the working of the implementation model at gross root level. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The description of the overall architectural model is considered and a design model for implementing the online testing components has been presented. The platform on which the development has to take place has been designed considering various features that are related to dynamic evolution. Findings: Dynamically evolvable embedded systems must be evolvable syntactically and semantically. Different subsystems related to both the evolutions must be included into the ES software architecture. The change effected to various components through these modules must be tested online which the system is in running mode before the changed components are pushed into full operational mode. The test processes must also be evolved dynamically as it is not possible to fore see the changes. Comprehensive architectural models have been considered and the implementation model of the online testing components which are self-evolvable has been presented in this paper. The implementation design has been undertaken considering various issues which include the platform for development, the interlacing between the components, the use of the features of the RTOS etc. Application/Improvements: The implementation model has been applied to a safety critical system that monitors and controls temperatures within a nuclear reactor system and experimentation has been done to find the effectiveness of the model designed.
