The kinetics of oxidation of cinnamic acid by BPCC in aqueous acetic acid (50%-50% v/v) in the presence of sulphuric acid has been studied. In order to arrive at a correlation between the synthetic efficacy and structure of reagent, the kinetics of oxidation of cinnamic acid with BPCC has been carried out in aqueous acetic acid. The reaction exhibit first order dependence on both the oxidant and substrate concentrations. In this part we have studied oxidation of cinnnamic acid by bipyridinium chlorochromate and determined rate at various concentration of bipyridinium chlorochromate.
