Based on the materials collected as a result of a comprehensive field research, an ethnographic description of the traditional festive ceremony Ushestye, the Ascension of Christ, recorded in the territory of the Russian-Belarusian border zone is given. The main stages of a local rite action, its participants are considered. Language material, representing the symbolic significance of the rite is analyzed. The symbolic meaning of the key words of the rite (Ushestye, arrow) is determined by the amount of variant semantic vectors the semantic field of which is outlined by the represented rite text.
