Abstract

Welcome to the first issue of 2014!! A brief overview about the various papers published in this issue is outlined below. A space craft kick start marks a glorious moment even while many important successful transient events take place at its backdrop. There is a report which dwells on startup of the solid rocket motor especially the Ignition Over Pressure (IOP) during the lift-off of launch vehicle. A sudden shock front generated during the blast leaves a clear wave signature that would be employed in simulation studies for needed rectifications. Recognition of handwritten scripts has been an area of intensive research. There is a report on the LU factorization technique for feature extraction along with Naïve Bayes Classifier in recognizing handwritten Odia numerals (a regional language of north-eastern states of India). Any improvement attempts to bridge language islands with the digital information grid would be of immense use to the mankind. ‘Key’ management is the most challenging part in the cryptography. The pit-fall in the existing protocol is that many times the key gets compromised. A protocol proposed in this issue offers better protection wherein the hackers will not be able to recover the actual session key even if the pre-shared master key gets compromised. An another team has come up with the feasibility of building a secured environment for the technical local host and remote programmers, even in the presence of an unsecured OS kernel, with a reasonable amount of storage and efficiency. The novel MCBA approach would protect applications against memory corruption and thereby reduce the vulnerability of critical information in areas like health, security as well as in trade secrets. A research team improved the compressive strength of cement concrete by mixing magnetic water with ingredients in concrete. 55% of Magnetized Concrete Water is much more stronger than Normal Water. Grouting is a very common method of sealing rock and repairing concrete structures. A research group has proposed a Geological Groutability Index (GGI). This index determines the rock fracture quality based on the characteristics of the fractures present in the test section. GGI would benefit project engineering in designing water bodies especially damfoundation improvement. Power grids are becoming increasingly stressed due to demand for more power, high efficiency and reliability. A team designed damping controller after considering a wide range of operating conditions and system configurations. The proposed method has an edge over the conventional PSS for better performance. Quadratic assignment problem is considered to be one of the hardest combinatorial optimization problems and a researcher developed a data-guided lexisearch algorithm for obtaining exact optimal solution to the QAP. Construction inspectors usually use sheets of paper or field note books. Now a mobile defect inspection system comes handy to relieve them from the drudgery of carrying books. The prototype would suit the need of the construction projects. A research group presents a fully automated healthcare model for managing vitamin D deficiency including the diagnosis and treatment flow. This system provides a supportive interface for training medical students. I hope you all make wonderful use of all these researches. P
